March 22-23, 2018, Sofia, Bulgaria.

As part of Bulgaria’s chairmanship of Europe in the first semester of 2018, DG EAC (Directorate- General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture) organized the 2018 EU Sport Forum. More than 300 participants attended the event hosted by the mayor of Sofia and under the auspices of the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Mr. Tibor Navracsics.

The Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022 and in Paris in 2024 were among the topics discussed during this two-day forum. The role of sport to promote international cooperation was also debated, as well as the potential role of sport in the development of cities and regions. Another topic that has been addressed and of importance for Jean-Claude Coubard, President and Founder of the European Healthy Lifestyle Alliance (EHLA) and Executive Director of the International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk (ICCR), was the relevance of a healthy lifestyle. This session was organized following the “Tartu Call for a Healthy Lifestyle” that was launch in September 2017 in Tartu, Estonia.

Mr. Yves Le Lostecque, Head of the Sport Unit, DG EAC, announced the establishment of a transdisciplinary working group which will consist of the three Commissioners who created and signed the Tartu Call: Mr. Tibor Navracsics (Education, Culture, Youth and Sport), Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis (Health and Food Safety) and Mr. Phil Hogan (Agriculture and Rural Development). This working group will have to determine for the next two years the actions to be implemented as part of the fifteen action points on healthy lifestyle habits defined in Tartu.

In this context, Mr. Jean-Claude Coubard, representing EHLA, reiterated his offer to contribute in collaboration with other institutions such as WHO to the establishment and conduct of this action plan.
